DCHSA Events & Activities
Homeschool S.O.S.
Homeschool S.O.S. is a class for homeschooling moms and dads who have been homeschooling for three years or less. They meet the first Thursday of every month to discuss various topics related to homeschooling and parenting. The cost of Homeschool S.O.S. is $25 (to cover the cost of copies and brownies!).
DCHSA Soccer
DCHSA Homeschool Soccer meets in Denton from 2–4 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday for several weeks in the fall and in the spring. Both practice and games are held during that time so there are no night or weekend games. DCHSA Soccer is open to any homeschooler age 6 through 14 (no previous soccer experience is needed). Preference will be given to DCHSA members. All teams are dependent on volunteer coaches.
Homeschool Workshops
“Learning Styles,” “Transcript Workshop,” and “Going the Distance” are just a few of the workshops that have been offered in the past by DCHSA. Sprinkled throughout the year, these workshops are valuable opportunities for you to refresh your vision for homeschooling, refine your methods of teaching, and relax with like-minded friends.
School Pictures & Yearbook
Every fall DCHSA offers a school picture day and a retake day that is conducted by a professional portrait company. These pictures are compiled to make a yearbook that also highlights academic achievements, social events, sports and photos of homeschoolers hard at work or play. Yearbooks can be purchased by DCHSA families as keepsakes.
Kick-Off Event
Splash into the new school year with our annual DCHSA Kick-Off Event. Held at Denton Water Works Park for the past three years, this event is sure to please the whole family. You will leave the Kick-Off Event encouraged seeing firsthand that hundreds of families in your area are involved in the home school adventure. This event is free for member families.
End-of-Year Picnic
Whether you are beginning a well-deserved break or staying the course, you will enjoy this time of family fun in the month of May. Bring food to share and plenty of sunscreen to enjoy a day at the park.
Science Fair
Each February DCHSA hosts a science fair for grades K-12. The fair is usually held at a library in Denton on a weekday evening. There is no cost to participate, but there is a registration deadline each year. Refreshments are served at the fair, and certificates of participation will be awarded. This is good way for those that participate in the North Texas District Science Fair to have another opportunity to display their projects.
Commencement Ceremonies
You will want to invite friends and family to share in this very special event to honor your homeschooled graduate. In addition to commencement ceremonies for both Middle School and High School, DCHSA presents homeschool scholarship awards to the winners of scholarship contests. This is a wonderful opportunity for the homeschool community. Commencement ceremonies are open to all homeschooled graduates in North Central Texas. Tell a friend!
